Handyman or woman wanted!

We are looking for a handyman/woman to spare a couple of hours to refurbish a stand alone trail head sign in order that we can mount trail maps, a sign in book, and other news at the Trail Head / Parking lot.  The Club will purchase all the necessary materials.  Much of the work could be done over the course of a normal Saturday afternoon JR session.  We are hoping to have this done as early as possible.  Please contact Trails Coordinator Pat Kirkham at trails@kanatanordic.ca.

“This was a great, low-key event last year. If your family is interested in a Sunday ski you may want to take it in.” Mike D.

Gatineau Loppet, Feb 20-21, 2010

Track Attackers & LTT/TTT Racers

Your registration fee for Track Attack or LTT/TTT Racers program included entry into either the 5 km Classic or 10 km Skate events of the Gatineau Loppet. The Gatineau Loppet will be held on the weekend of 20 (classic events) and 21 (skate events) February 2010. Details about the loppet can be found on the Gatineau Loppet web site.

We (Sue Atherley and Steve Howard) will be taking care of the club registration into the Gatineau Loppet for the Track Attack and LTT/TTT racers this year. In order for Kanata Nordic to receive the club discount for these registrations, we must deliver all of the registration forms to the Gatineau Loppet office on 22 January 2010. Note that there is no electronic registration for club/group entries.

For those of you who intend on participating in either the 5 km Classic event or the 10 km Skate events, please print and complete the attached registration form. Hard copies of the completed forms can be returned directly to Sue or I, or to Dev or Mike. Alternately, you can complete the form, scan it and send it to us electronically via return e-mail. We will acknowledge receipt of e-mails so that you know we have received it. We must have all forms no later than 21 January!

If you plan on doing both the 5 km Classic and 10 km Skate, complete the form indicating registration in both events and provide us with a cheque, payable to “Kanata Nordic Ski Club” for the entry into one of the two events.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us via e-mail: steve.howard@rogers.com.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Loppet!

Hi Track Attack members,

Good work by everyone on Saturday last week. You guys worked very hard. I entered your Track Attack Points online so click here to check it out. Please make sure you keep updating your totals.

Thu Jan 14th, 6:30 PM Track Attack Ski at Ycamp

Originally I wanted to make this a classic session, but we’re going to have some light snow and ice pellets, so it will be better for skating.

Sat Jan 16th 1:30 to 3:30 PM Track Attack

Back at the YCamp. I’ll send out another note on Friday for the technique. Parents, I would like a few of you to stay around to assist me, as the group is getting really large. You don’t need to coach, just help me direct kids during drills

Sun Jan 17, 10 am Ski orienteering! (aka Ski-O)

Originally we were supposed to have a Gatineau Park outing, but that is cancelled as there is a ski orieteering event at our club facility. This event will be run primarily by the Ottawa Orienteering Club (OOC), but we are co-hosts so let’s get some Kanata Nordic guys out there!  Get more information on the OOC web site.

This will be a really fun and different way to explore our trails. Skiers and family are encouraged, to come out on Sunday. Apparently there will be hot chocolate and cookies. This will be a great opportunity for generating group and club spirit.

Track Attack Olympics Party

I am looking into having a party for Track Attack during the Olympics potentially at Boston Pizza in the Centrum on one of the Sunday’s during the Olympics. Let me know if you have interest. Cost will be around $15 per adult and less for kids.

Thanks! Dev (trackattack@kanatanordic.ca)

A Pool of Poles

pink_ski_girl

Having the right length of poles can make the difference between a fun or a frustrating outing for our young skiers. Since our kids seem to grow quite regularly it is hard to always have the right lengths. So we propose to create a pool of poles for our members to borrow from. Bring any unused poles (big or small) that you are willing to loan to the chalet (the hot chocolate location) before  lessons any Saturday. Anyone who wants to try out a pair just help yourself!

If you’d like your poles back at the end of the season please put tape on each pole and mark them ‘return to your name‘. If you want to donate them to the club that’s great too. Any unclaimed poles at season’s end will go into club storage and be pulled out next season. Total honour system — we will not be recording poles coming and going.

Your group leader should be able to help you determine the proper pole length for skating and classic, but the general guideline is that for classic the poles should reach under the arm of the skier. For skating they should be longer — about at chin height.

We hope you will contribute if you can and that this will be useful to our members! Your feedback and suggestions are most welcome: info@kanatanordic.ca.
