Wow; what an excellent weekend for the Club at the Gloppet. Dev: Please pass on my congrats to the Track Attackers.
Despite some very tough waxing conditions on Saturday and a very tough ski up the Pink’s Lake hill on Sunday there were some remarkable results. To put Sunday’s ski into perspective, when I first started to skate ski, I decided about 6 years ago that I was reasonably fit an knew what I was doing enough to enter the Keskinada 29 km skate. The course started with the same route that today’s 10 km skate followed. About 1/2 up Pink’s Lake Hill, I was sucking wind so badly that I had to stop to catch my breath before I carried on. It was very humbling to see everyone carry on, and a great learning experience for me. Needless to say our young athletes did something that 90% of their peers could not, and I challenge all the parents to take this hill on.
My congratulations go to everyone, but I feel compelled to mention a few specifics. (I do apologize if I missed anyone)
On Saturday in the 5 km classic 12-13 girls Natasha took the gold, Katie D the silver and Sabrina the bronze (a KN sweep). Brendon H won a gold in his age group, as did Shelby H. Michela Cotaras had a great race and took home a bronze medal; way to go. Alex B averaged 18.8 kph and Elyse C. 16.6 kph (and missed the bronze by less than 10 seconds); trying skiing these speeds when your grip wax slips more that it grips!
On Sunday there were three gold medal winners: Brendon H, Shelby H, and Aidan K. Jonathan M. took the bronze in the 12-13 boys skate, Jeremy C took a silver, and Katie M was a close 4th in her age group. Others that conquered the “Hill” (a remarakble achievement to say the least) include Brandon P, Elyse C., Marta K, Hannah Z., Anna and Geoffrey V., Matthew P, and Kathyrn F. Alex B. managed the 10 k race at an average speed of 16.2 kph, try doing that up 2 km of uphill.
Lastly congrats to Michelle Charrier for being one of those parents who took the challenge by completing the 16 k Classic and found out first hand the work our athletes put into racing. And of course congrats to the other parents that put on the skis.
It was a great weekend and congratulations for everyone and their effort. Well done, I am proud of each and everyone of you for your achievements but also for how you represented the Club both on and off the race course.

Congratulations to all that participated in the Silver Spoon and at the Kanata Sprints. We had some great results and some of you knocked significant time off previous bests at similar distances.
L2T and T2T will be at Riverfront on Tuesday. Start time is 6:30, technique will be skate.
This coming weekend will be the Tay Valley Loppet on Sunday (rescheduled), if snow conditions permits, and the CSM. Training time and location for Saturday will be confirmed.

February 06; Many of the Racers will be in Deep River at the Silver Spoon, good luck. Allow 2 hours to drive, and aim to be on site by 9:30. Everyone does their calassic race between 11:00 and noon. Apply blue glide but no grip wax.
Any Racers not travelling to Deep River are welcome to join Dev and the Track Attack at 1:30 on Saturday at Rivefront.
Kanata Sprints are Sunday. Aim to be on site by approximately 8:00 pm.

Many of the Racers will be at Coupe Skinouk on the weekend. Anyone not racing can join the Track Attackers in the afternoon at Riverfront. Alternatively, T2T can help with the JR program. Find Marlene or Ardeth when on site on Saturday.
Good luck to Alex who is at the Canadian Ski-O championship this weekend.

We are looking for a handyman/woman to spare a couple of hours to refurbish a stand alone trail head sign in order that we can mount trail maps, a sign in book, and other news at the Trail Head / Parking lot. The Club will purchase all the necessary materials. Much of the work could be done over the course of a normal Saturday afternoon JR session. We are hoping to have this done as early as possible. Please contact Trails Coordinator Pat Kirkham at trails@kanatanordic.ca.

Track Attackers & LTT/TTT Racers
Your registration fee for Track Attack or LTT/TTT Racers program included entry into either the 5 km Classic or 10 km Skate events of the Gatineau Loppet. The Gatineau Loppet will be held on the weekend of 20 (classic events) and 21 (skate events) February 2010. Details about the loppet can be found on the Gatineau Loppet web site.
We (Sue Atherley and Steve Howard) will be taking care of the club registration into the Gatineau Loppet for the Track Attack and LTT/TTT racers this year. In order for Kanata Nordic to receive the club discount for these registrations, we must deliver all of the registration forms to the Gatineau Loppet office on 22 January 2010. Note that there is no electronic registration for club/group entries.
For those of you who intend on participating in either the 5 km Classic event or the 10 km Skate events, please print and complete the attached registration form. Hard copies of the completed forms can be returned directly to Sue or I, or to Dev or Mike. Alternately, you can complete the form, scan it and send it to us electronically via return e-mail. We will acknowledge receipt of e-mails so that you know we have received it. We must have all forms no later than 21 January!
If you plan on doing both the 5 km Classic and 10 km Skate, complete the form indicating registration in both events and provide us with a cheque, payable to “Kanata Nordic Ski Club” for the entry into one of the two events.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with us via e-mail: steve.howard@rogers.com.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Loppet!
