2nd Annual Dunrobin Kids of Steel Triathlon

triathlon

There’s lots of time for kids 6-19 years old to get their swimming, biking and running into form for the August 29th Dunrobin Kids of Steel Triathlon. Presented by the Bytown Storm Triathlon Team, the event is being held at the Y Bonnenfant Centre. There are two race categories, for thin and fat tired bikes and the course is a closed one — making it safer for the participants. To find out more visit the Bytown Storm web site.

ORR camp photo

The Ottawa River Runners offers a summer camp program that teaches the basics of whitewater kayaking skills in a fun, safe environment. The campers will get started on the calm flat water learning all the basic strokes before progressing to the moving water. Qualified kayak instructors will teach participants self rescues, ferries, eddy turns and the first steps of whitewater paddling running the rapids. All equipment for the camps is provided. For more information visit the Summer Camps page on the ORR web site.

Ottawa River Canoe Club (ORCC)

Our river-side neighbours at the Y Bonnenfant Centre have a great line-up of camps for beginning paddlers and old pros alike. ORCC offers day camps focusing on skills development to introduce the sport of paddling – sprint canoe, kayak, dragonboat, outrigger, recreational canoe skills, regatta skills – to children aged 8 and up. Available during July and August, campers will receive instruction in various types of paddling from certified coaches, and enjoy spending time on the water practicing what they’ve learned. The daily paddling activities are balanced with crafts, games and a day trip or two to various spots along the river, as well as lots of swimming on those hot and sunny days. Download the ORCC brochure or visit their web site for full details.
