2010 Club Banquet and Annual General Meeting
All members are invited to attend our year-end banquet and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday March 28, 2010 at the Boston Pizza (Lounge area) in the Kanata Centrum plaza. The AGM gets underway at 3:00 p.m. — plan to attend if you’re at all interested in volunteering for an Executive position or would just like to know more about Club operations. The banquet starts at 4:30 p.m. and runs until about 7:00 p.m. For adults and children over 10 there will be a buffet meal: non-stop pizza, two pasta selections (alfredo and tomato meat sauces), caesar salad, dessert and non-stop pop.
Children under 10 can order off the regular children’s menu, which features about 10 different selections and includes a drink (juice/pop/milk) plus dessert. The cost for adults is $19.99 and for children is $6.49 — all taxes and tips included! Alcoholic beverages and other items can be purchased separately.
Last year’s 30th anniversary banquet was a big hit and we just couldn’t imagine finishing the season without another one. However our venue this year is much smaller so space is limited (only about 75). To reserve your tickets email info@kanatanordic.ca. Deadline for reservations is Wed. March 24th. You can pay by cash or cheque (made out to Kanata Nordic) at the door.
Join your fellow skiers for a relaxing social evening featuring memories of the season and a surprise or two. And let Boston Pizza cook for the family that night!
Sunday February 7, 2010: Annual Kanata Nordic Sprint Race: Also known as “the Pretzel“, this annual family event at the YM-YWCA Outdoor Centre is definitely one not to miss! Young skiers from across the region race over a fun and fast course in search of their personal best time, a chocolate-covered pretzel award at the finish, medals, prizes and simply a great day outdoors. The 2009 Kanata Nordic Ski Swap and Sale takes place on Sat. Nov. 14 (for drop off) and Sun. Nov. 15 (for the sale itself) at the the John Mlacak Centre, 2500 Campeau Drive, Kanata. For more information visit the Annual Ski Swap & Sale page.
Our Trails Day on October 17, 2009 was a great success all around. We had a large turn-out, with about 50 members on hand plus some new ones there to register. The trail network was nicely spruced up in preparation for the snow and the glorious fall weather allowed people to linger after the work to chat and enjoy the homemade soups and chili. More information on the day and photos will appear in the upcoming December edition of the Kanata Nordic Newsletter.
Thank you to all those who participated in this event, and to those who organized it as well. The Club should be proud that over a few short years we have transformed overgrown, little-used trails to a lovely recreational area for skiing and hiking. This has been achieved entirely through the efforts of volunteers, who are essential to the success of our Club. Well done!
