Kanata Nordic Racers at First Ontario Cup Event of the 2010-11 Ski Season

The weekend of December 18th & 19th saw four Kanata Nordic Racers athletes competing at the first Ontario Cup race weekend of the season at Highlands Nordic Ski Centre in Duntroon, near Collingwood, Ontario. The race conditions were ideal for this first event with 4 feet of snow having fallen over the previous 2 weeks!

On Saturday morning Brendon Howard qualified with a time of 0:02:06.10 and then went on to win the B-Final consolation in the Juvenile Boys Sprint category, over a very challenging 800 meter course in a field of 37 athletes. The A-Final was won by Angus Foster of Big Thunder Nordic Ski Club. Kanata Para Nordic Standing Men & Women Sprint results saw Alexei Novikov with gold, Margarita Gorbounova & guide Vespa Mather with Silver and Caroline Bisson with Bronze. On Sunday Brendon Howard had an equally impressive performance with a come-from-behind 4th overall finish in the Juvenile Boys 5 km Skate Distance event in a field of 38 skiers from across the province, only 39 seconts behind the winner Angus Foster. In a repeat of the previous day, Alexei Novikov won gold, Margarita Gorbounova & guide Harris Kirby won Silver and Caroline Bisson won Bronze in the Men and Women Para Nordic Standing 5 km Distance events.
