Nakkerinvitational Dodges the Weather

2011 Nakkertok Invitational

2011 Nakkertok Invitational

The snow finally made its appearance again in National Capital District just in time to grant the Nakkertok Classic Invitational a reprieve after a  delay of one day. Ski conditions at Nakkertok were decidedly dodgey earlier in the week and event organizers decided to postpone the race by one day with the promise of the 10 cm of snow that arrived on Saturday. Sunday dawned bright and cold with the new layer of snow was put to good use and expertly groomed over two largely separate courses for the junior and senior skiers.

Kanata Nordic Racers sent a small contingent of teen and adult skiers to represent the club. Shelby Howard was among 30 Midget (ages 12 & 13) Female competitors and Heather Kirby competed with 19 other Juvenile (ages 14 & 15) Females.  Brendon Howard posted a sixth out of 14 in the Juvenile Male category. Additionally, Alexei Novikov competed in the Open Masters Men race and Margarita Gorbounova competed in the Open Senior Women category guided by Harris Kirby.

A big Well Done and Thank You to Nakkertok Ski Club and their many dedicated volunteers for organizing yet another outstanding event and well done to ALL the competitors.
