Orienteering: A great summer sport for skiers

It builds physical and mental speed, agility and endurance by challenging the brain and body to work together in a race against the clock.
It encourages participants to explore many types of terrain: pavement, mud, water, sand, gravel, trails, roads, ...

To roller ski or not to roller ski? That is the question. With the end of ski season, the mind begins to ponder how to keep in shape until the next snow fall. For serious skiers, there is no question – roller skiing is an important part of any training plan and a great way to keep in shape during the long off-season.
For those of us who aren’t focused on racing all winter long, the answer is less clear. Here are three questions you might consider before taking the plunge on roller ...
Letter from National Capital Division (NCD) President, Thom Lyon
To our Local XC-Ski Clubs,
I’m writing to inform you of the upcoming NCD AGM and to encourage you to encourage volunteers from within each of your clubs for the board. The volunteer effort required for NCD board positions are relatively small and the few meetings during a year are in a warm, comfortable room (Hopefully this makes the roles more appealing).
The NCD serves all 15 clubs in the National Capital Region and ...

Six Fundamentals of Shooting
If you don't know that much about biathlon, all it is is skiing, shooting, skiing, shooting, and skiing like crazy. Oh! I almost forgot - and it's fun!

Discover upgrades to our trail network plus changes to access points and hours
Now that the ski season is well underway, we’re thrilled to be back on the boards and hitting the trails. This year we’ve made many upgrades to our trail network, as well as some changes to access points and hours.
Some of the updates were made due to changes to the annual Magic of Lights display, which is a significant event for Wesley Clover Parks and a fundraiser for the Ottawa Senators Foundation.
December 26, 2017: "Happy trails: Place where you can XC ski, right in Ottawa" by Matthew Pearson.
"Nothing beats gliding down Champlain Parkway in the crisp sunshine or hitting the trails after dark to enjoy supper by candle light in the cozy confines of Shilly Shally, one of the park’s iconic red-trimmed shacks heated by woodstove and the huffing of skate skiers.
But what if you: a) don’t have a car or b) only have a short window of time in which to squeeze in a skinny ski?
Kanata Nordic doesn't currently have xc skiing or snowshoe equipment for rent. We hope to in the future. In the meantime, we can recommend the following knowledgeable retailers. We suggest you call ahead to determine availability.
Fresh Air Experience (xc ski gear)
MEC (xc ski gear and snowshoes)
Kunstadt Sports (xc ski gear)
Once again this year the holiday season will be ‘illuminated’ by the Magic of Lights display in the evenings. It’s a new name and expanded route through the campground roads. When the display is operational there is NO SKIER OR VEHICLE ACCESS to the roads in use for it, even during the daytime. This is for your personal safety. Kanata Nordic has groomed new bypass trails so that skiers can enjoy loops and not dead-end at a road. Please help Kanata Nordic be a good tenant of the Parks by ...
